For Auckland based volunteers there are a number of ways you can get involved:

Food for Kids distributions

Four times a term we do a Food for Kids distribution; this involves around 12 volunteers coming to our warehouse in Beatrice Tinsley Crescent, Rosedale (Auckland) picking and packing pallets of food for our partner schools across the country.

We work in groups with a checklist of different types of food (nut bars, fruit pottles, scroggin etc), count out the number of boxes required of each product, pack them onto a pallet then shrink wrap them up for our warehouse manager to collect and move with the forklift ready for the truck to pickup.

The food distribution usually goes from 9am-12pm (depending on how many people we have helping) and is usually on Tuesday and Thursday.  This is fairly heavy work and may not be suitable for some people.

Events

We organise and participate in a number of events throughout the year where we require volunteers to help with various things such as raffles, auctions and shaking the collection tins.  The events are usually held in Auckland and can often be in the evenings or weekends.

Shoe and raincoat distributions

These distributions usually take place in April and are similar to the food distributions.  Over the course of a week KidsCan requires help of 4-6 volunteers every morning with help sorting and packing the raincoats, shoes and socks ready for distribution to the partner schools nationwide.

General administration at the KidsCan office

Occasionally the KidsCan staff requires assistance with some general administration duties at the Apollo Dr office in Mairangi Bay.  Duties would include basic data entry, stuffing and labeling envelopes for “In Our Own Backyard” club member packs and bimonthly newsletters.  If you would be interested in helping with this please submit a KidsCan volunteer registration form so we can add you to our database of wonderful volunteers.

For volunteers not based in Auckland there is also something you can do to help:

Events

We organise and participate in a number of events throughout the year where we require volunteers to help with various things such as raffles, auctions and shaking the collection tins.  The events will occasionally take place in other main cities (Wellington and Christchurch) and can often be in the evenings or weekends.

Assisting your local KidsCan School

KidsCan partner schools are all low decile schools who all receive the KidsCan programmes.  Some schools may be interested in receiving volunteer assistance.  Contact the Principal of the school you would like to offer assistance to and advise them of the time and any skills you may deem helpful.  It is then up to the Principal to decide if they would like volunteer assistance and ascertain suitability.

Please don’t hesitate to contact us if you require any further assistance or if you have any other fundraising ideas
