Reporter Tristram Clayton looked at New Zealand's child poverty problem. Central New Brighton School principal Toni Burnside says that for many of her pupils, their first meal of the day comes from the KidsCan charity. KidsCan delivers to 211 low-decile schools around the country. Julie Chapman (nee Helson) from KidsCan says that many people do not realise how bad the poverty problem is in New Zealand, adding that she wants New Zealanders to donate money to children in New Zealand instead of those overseas. KidsCan recipient John Kotara says that it would be much harder for his family to get by without the charity. Leabank School principal Rex Maddren says that people should stop blaming others and just 'do something for the good of the children'.
