Kiwi kids running to help others in need
Students across the country now have an easy, free and fun way to help Kiwi kids in need, as KidsCan and the School Fun Run join forces to launch the KidsCan Fun Run. Schools are invited to organise a Fun-Run, Walk-A-Thon, Family Fun-Day, Mud Run, or any other physical event in June, with all money raised going to KidsCan.
In the last two years, the School Fun Run has helped over 275 schools raise over $1.5 million, averaging an amazing $10,000 a school. That money has been used by schools for sports gear, camps, trips, and playground shades.
At Forrest Hill School on Auckland’s North Shore, their School Fun Run brought in $17,000 last year.
“The Fun Run is a great way to bring our school community together for a fun family event,” Principal John Marwick says. “It has become an event that our whole community supports and looks forward to.”
This year, the money raised by schools through the KidsCan Fun Run will support thousands of children living in hardship across New Zealand, through KidsCan’s vital programmes:
- Food at school for hungry children, helping them concentrate and learn
- Waterproof raincoats to get children to and from school warm and dry
- Shoes and socks to allow children to safely get to school and participate
- Basic health and hygiene products to keep the school community healthy
KidsCan’s CEO and Founder Julie Chapman said the charity is incredibly grateful to be partnering with School Fun Run this year.
“We want to thank all the schools who will arrange these awesome events, and the kids running for us. As teachers know more than anyone, education gives children opportunities, and the money raised will help us make sure kids in hardship get to school, and enjoy learning - just like any other kid.”
The School Fun Run team works to make sure this is a very easy fundraiser for schools to organise, with no cost to the school. Because all the fundraising is online, there’s no door knocking for donations, or coins to count. They also offer amazing fundraising incentives for students taking part to reward their fundraising efforts.
