Lunchbox Day's new total

Lunchbox Day's new total

Thursday, October 4, 2012

Just over a month ago we spoke with the children's commissioner about child poverty in New Zealand and what we need to do to address it.

Dr Russell Wills had released a sobering report on child poverty in New Zealand.

It showed 270,000 children live in poverty every day, and recommended urgent action to stop a generation of children being failed by the rest of us.

Since then, we decided to do something. It wouldn't solve child poverty, but our Lunchbox Day would feed kids who otherwise wouldn't get fed.

The result was you helped us raise an awful lot of money to help an awful lot of children.

At the end of Friday’s show, it was just more than $300,000, but it was always likely to go up a bit more.
