More FM joins forces with KidsCan for More Day

Tuesday, July 30, 2013

One of New Zealand’s biggest local radio networks joins forces for the second year with KidsCan next week to tackle child poverty head-on and raise much needed funds on More Day.

On Friday 9 August More FM hosts from every corner of New Zealand will present shows on the nationwide More FM radio network.  Each featured broadcaster -  from Simon Barnett to Marc Ellis and award winning regional hosts like Manawatu’s Mike West – will each host one hour of More Day and be joined by big names like Ginny Blackmore, Anna Hutchison, Jackie Thomas and other music and showbiz guests.  Guest newsreaders including Mike McRoberts, Rachel Smalley and Michelle Pickles are providing their skills across the day too.

More Day 2013 sees the introduction of a new fundraising initiative whereby schools and businesses all over New Zealand can get in on the action by participating in the inaugural KidsCan National Mufti Day. Children who attend one of the 260 plus participating schools across New Zealand will make a gold coin donation on the day to KidsCan. In addition, many Kiwi businesses will either go mufti or dress fancy for the day.  “Schools and businesses are really excited to be involved. They are going all out to make it a fun day for the kids and bigger kids alike, with a huge range of varying dress up themes. It’s fantastic to have such tremendous support - the engagement and photos will be great to see!” says KidsCan General Manager of Marketing and Fundraising Jan Clark.

More FM’s 22 local teams will also be doing their bit to get the community into the fundraising spirit and will be visiting there local mufti day schools on More Day.

More FM Network Programme Director Ande Macpherson says, “I’m really proud at how much our local More FM teams have got stuck in to fundraising, it’s been a huge undertaking at a busy time of year, but we are doing this for a great cause that we are really passionate about, which makes it very worthwhile.”

Fundraising for KidsCan has already begun, with a special More Day charity store launching on trademe tomorrow. Auction items include two family trips to Fiji thanks to Treasure Island Resort & grabaseat, a $10,300 diamond and platinum ring from Diamonds on Richmond, and a $12,900 luxury spa from The Spa and Pool Factory. The More FM local teams have also gathered together many smaller auction items from their region’s local markets to be auctioned in the More Day charity store at trade.me/moreday. 100 % of the funds raised from the numerous trademe auctions go to KidsCan.  On More Day itself, More FM listeners around New Zealand will be encouraged to donate money to Kidscan by calling 0508 MORE DAY.

“We feel very privileged to once again be part of More FM’s, More Day,” says Julie Chapman, KidsCan CEO and Founder. “Last year the support of More FM and the public of New Zealand raised $100,000 enabling KidsCan to assist a further 555 Kiwi kids. This year’s support will enable KidsCan to do even more through the programmes we provide in 341 schools throughout New Zealand”.
