This winter, the power will go out for children living in hardship

For some of our kids in winter the lights just go out.

Lots of cheaper rentals have prepaid electricity meters, but for some families the money runs out before they can afford to top up. It means they live without any power for one or two days each week.

I asked some of our students how they survive. “Sometimes we get candles and put the eggs in a tin and heat the tin up underneath to cook the egg,” one said. Another boy chimed in, “Yeah or you light the fire so you can cook the sausages on a stick.” I’m thinking, “Are you for real?!” “Yeah it’s cool, you should try it one day!”
