Thank you to our corporate partners for their support during COVID-19

Thu, 9 Apr 2020

With schools currently closed due to Covid-19, KidsCan knew that this meant that the 34,000 Kiwi kids who would normally depend our food programme each day, would now be facing the very real prospect of going hungry.

As a government approved essential service, we are sending over 3,000 food parcels to our most vulnerable families, in our most isolated areas. Each of these parcels contains staples such as rice, pasta, pasta sauce, bread, heat and eat meals, fruit, baked beans, peanut butter, muesli bars, tissues, hand wash and even Easter eggs, and will help support a family of five for two weeks.

We needed help to urgently get these food parcels packed and delivered around the country. We have been incredibly grateful for the support from our partners, Cadbury, Freightways and Johnson & Johnson for stepping up to the challenge and helping us pack the food parcels.

Not only did these partners roll up their sleeves and help pack the parcels but they did multiple times across the week to ensure that we were able to get all the food parcels out before Easter. A new record was reached during the distribution with Cadbury Brand Manager, Christel Maurer packing 208 boxes in just 4 hours! The volume that the team have been able to pack has been amazing and helped ensure that these families were able to enjoy Easter!

We are also extremely grateful for the support we have received from our amazing partners and supporters, Countdown Supermarkets, Tip Top Bakery, Tasti, Cookie time, Cadbury, Dole, Kleenex & Ecostore who have all donated product for these food parcels!

Thank you for your support, we couldn’t have done it without you!

They’re just some of the wacky and wonderful ways Kiwis have raised money for our charity KidsCan over recent years – and proof that the sky’s the limit when it comes to drumming up cash for a cause you care about.

''Our students come back after the school holidays and they’re just really skinny. ''

Our students come back after the school holidays and they’re just really skinny. And, of course, they haven’t actually had a holiday - there’s no financial resource for that. The main challenge we face is whānau having ‘too much week at the end of the money.’ They call it “No Money Monday’ or ‘The Poor Day.’
