At KidsCan, we rely on the kindness of Kiwis to help us create meaningful change. When you join our Village of monthly donors, you become part of a community committed to helping tamariki escape the poverty cycle. Just $30 a month ensures a child in need gets warm clothes, good food, comfy shoes and health products for a whole year. This sets them up to focus in class, thrive and fulfil their potential.
Together we can be the difference. Will you join our Village?
The past year saw us deliver tens of thousands of shoes and jackets to our KidsCan partner schools nationwide, and over 6 million food items. But these numbers tell only part of the story. We also heard from schools how our impact went far beyond keeping kids warm, dry and fed. As well as the all-important ability to focus, learn and participate in school activities, children felt a sense of belonging, of being cared for, of dignity and pride.
As a member of The KidsCan Village, your monthly donations make a real difference. Teachers and principals tell us just what an impact you make for their tamariki:
"One of our staff members brought KidsCan on board. When the supplies arrived, there was a collective breath out. Now we have a big supply where staff can very quickly get a student what they need, be it shoes or food. Over the last year I’ve seen kids opening up more and more, and turning up to class in a better position to learn and engage." - KidsCan partner school principal
"It has made such a difference having KidsCan in our school and having it as part of our family. It has made a huge impact on our families. The smile on their faces when they get a jacket, the smile on their faces when they get new shoes, the full bellies and warm tummies and the way the children are - that’s the difference KidsCan makes for us." - KidsCan partner ECE teacher
"KidsCan helped me out so much, with those little things of hope. When it's the only meal you're having a day, or your first new shoes, you can't even imagine the impact that has on kids. It's someone showing you they care about you. Just to feel like someone could see me and see what I was going through is really cool."
Schools with children who would benefit from KidsCan support can apply to become a partner school. Once a school finishes our application process, and we have adequate funding to support them on an ongoing basis, they have access to our free food, clothing and health products.
Shelf-stable, nutritious food including canned fruit, pasta, soup, scroggin and baked beans is delivered to schools once per term. Schools then distribute this to children needing breakfast, lunch or snacks.
Fleece-lined jackets are provided to the entire school roll to encourage inclusiveness, and shoes and socks are given to students identified by the school as needing them. Health products including hand sanitiser, nit treatment and period products are ordered as needed.
