As schools enter the second week of Term 2, here at KidsCan we’ve been busy distributing over 174 tonnes of food to our partner schools for this term. From fruit salad and trail mix to vegetable soups and tortellini, over 13,000 items of food are on their way to feed 40,000 hungry Kiwi kids every day.

At KidsCan, we often refer to the saying, “it takes a village to raise a child.

None of this would be possible without the generosity of our supporters. We’re incredibly grateful to have the support of caring Kiwis making our work possible.

At KidsCan, we often refer to the saying, “it takes a village to raise a child”. To us, our monthly donors are that village – a village of like-minded people who believe that no Kiwi kid should have to go without. A village that believes in doing something about it.

We wanted to come up with a name that describes our community of supporters, all of whom are making such a huge difference to the lives of kids in our partner schools. The KidsCan Village sums it up so well.

And together, The KidsCan Village is achieving amazing things. They’re:

  • Helping to provide nutritious, hearty breakfast, snack and lunch foods to 40,000 hungry school kids every day.

  • Giving children new fleece-lined jackets and comfortable shoes, so they arrive at school warm and dry, no matter the weather.

  • Providing preschoolers with a jacket, shoes and socks and freshly prepared meals at kindy.

With access to these essentials, thousands of Kiwi kids have the opportunity to participate in learning so they can build a brighter future. A huge thank you to everyone who is part of The KidsCan Village for helping us give all Kiwi kids a fair start.

If you’d like to join this community, we’d love to have you onboard! You can support a child today for just $30 a month.

If our kids are hungry, how can they be expected to learn?

It always sticks with me. "What did you have to eat last night?" I asked an upset kid at interval, as I tried to get to the bottom of what was going on. "Red soup," he said. "Tomato soup?" I asked. If only.

Principal on the importance of getting kids in need to dream big

I want our children to have big dreams. I want them to know that they matter. I want them to know that doors can and will open for them. That you can break the power of generations. That just because this has been your life up to now, this is not the end of the story. It’s just the beginning…
